Student Teacher Program

Science has long shown improvement in reading and math scores, logical thinking, and problem solving skills in students who play a musical instrument. At JNS, we believe music can do more than that! We believe the study and practice of music:
  • Teaches organization
  • Increases attention span
  • Improves attention to detail
  • Develops leadership qualities
  • Builds character
  • And encourages an appreciation for different cultures and beauty.

Our student teacher program is designed to provide an opportunity for students to build on these qualities while gaining marketable skills.
Student teachers provide one-on-one lessons in beginner piano and violin to students in grades PK- 5th under the supervision of the owner, Ms. Jen, for which they receive an hourly wage. In addition, student teachers have the opportunity to shadow the office staff and owner in order to learn the basics of owning and running a small business including marketing, design, social media management, book keeping, scheduling, and facilities management. The program is designed to last 1-2 years, after which the student teacher may apply for a position as an instructor.

Other aspects of the program include:
  • training in best practices of teaching
  • education in child development
  • weekly email teaching tips
  • participation in studio-wide staff meetings
  • participation in organizing studio concerts
  • participation in community events
  • gaining experience applying and interviewing for jobs through our on-boarding process

The student teacher program at JNS is a unique experience designed for high school students who are students of the studio and who meet the following criteria:
  • Be 16 years of age
  • Maintain a B average in school
  • Have graduated the elementary curriculum
